Spring is almost here! As the days get longer and the air feels warmer, there’s nothing better than starting your day with the comforting aroma of freshly baked bread. Imagine slicing into a warm, golden loaf with a crisp crust and a soft, airy interior—pure bliss!
Baking bread at home is not only rewarding but also easier than you might think. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a delicious loaf that’s perfect for breakfast, a picnic, or pairing with your favorite meal. Let’s get started!
In a bowl, mix the dry yeast with a little warm water and sugar. Stir well until the sugar dissolves. Let it sit for a few minutes until it becomes foamy—this means the yeast is active.
Preheat your oven to 40°C (104°F) and place your Dutch oven inside to warm up.
In a large bowl, combine the bread flour and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the yeast, along with the remaining warm water and olive oil.
Stir with a spatula until the dough starts coming together. Then, transfer it to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Shape the dough into a ball, sprinkle some flour on top, and, if you like, drizzle olive oil or add sesame seeds for extra flavor.
Line the preheated Dutch oven with parchment paper, place the dough inside, cover, and let it rise in the oven at 40°C (104°F) for 1 hour.
Without opening the oven, increase the temperature to 200°C (420°F) and bake for 40 minutes.
Baking Tips:
If you don’t have a Dutch oven, use a regular baking tray covered with foil.
Adding a bowl of hot water to the oven while baking helps create a crispier crust.
Let the bread cool for at least 20 minutes before slicing—it’s hard to wait, but it makes a difference!
Now, take a moment to enjoy your homemade creation. Whether you spread it with butter, drizzle it with honey, or simply enjoy it as is, this bread will make your spring mornings even more delightful. Happy baking!
