09 Mar Homemade Turkey Burger
A burger moment. Today I am going to confess that, like most people, when I am not in a good mood, I eat carbs. I eat burgers, I eat desserts, I eat cookies and candy. But because I want to be healthy I cook at home most of the food we consume as a family. I want a healthy habit of leaving to be the to go habit for my little one. Of course we are not freaks, we order pizza and we dine out but not on a regular basis. So today I am sharing a kind of different burger recipe. A turkey burger recipe with bbq sauce and tomato, lettuce, red onion and whole wheat burger bun. I am sure if you try this burger you will see that this recipe has nothing less than calories from others. The flavor is all there!
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground turkey meat
- 1 egg
- 1 onion, grinded
- 1/2 cup dried plain bread crumbs
- salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh thyme to taste
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 – 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 carrot, grinded
- 1 red bell peppers, grinded
- 2 tablespoons Greek Olive oil
To serve:
- Whole wheat burger buns,
- Slices of a tomato, red onion, cheese,
- Few leaves of a lettuce,
- Bbq sauce

The method:
Preheat the oven to 355 F (180 C).
In your food processor add the carrots and red bell peppers. On your skillet add little Greek Olive Oil and the carrot and peppers mixture. We want to dehydrate before adding to the meat mixture. When the veggies have reduced their liquids remove from the heat and set aside to cool.
When they are cool add all the ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix well with your hands (add gloves) until they are combined well and the meat can be formed in the round balls. Shape the meat in round disks as big as your burger buns are and bake in the preheated oven for 30 mins and then flip them and bake for 5 more mins until they are golden and fully baked.
Allow them to cool a bit.
Meanwhile, you toast the burger buns with a slice of cheese (if you like) in the oven for 5 mins or until they are golden and the cheese is melted. (I use whole wheat burger buns)
Wash and slice a red onion, a tomato, a few leaves of lettuce, dry the lettuce with a towel.
Assemble the burger with the order you like. I like to put cheese on the bottom, then the burger, the tomato, onion and lettuce. I like to add the bbq sauce to the top burger bun. Any way you do it is going to be amazing! Enjoy!
